The main objective of the project is to attract innovative SMEs from the Baltic Sea region to participate in EU research and technology development programmes and to improve mutual co-operation with other European regions. The project covers the following sectors of biotechnologies, bioprocesses, informative and environmental technologies and perfectly contributes to the yearly Baltic Dynamics conference organised by common efforts of Lithuanians, Latvians and Estonians.

During the High-Tech Baltics 2001 Lithuanian SME representatives supported by EC had opportunities to get acquainted with the 5th framework programme of research and technology development, CRAFT and technology transfer projects.

Additionally, they were able to attend international exhibition "Research, Technologies and Innovation" and international conference "Eco Balt 2001".

"High-Tech Baltics 2001" event was held in September 14-16, 2001, during which the main constituent part of Baltic Dynamics Initiative project brokerage event - meetings were taking place. Small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) wishing to participate in the event had to submit a particular form, which in turn passed on to the on-line catalogue intended for the partner search in the Baltic and EU countries. During the meetings, representatives of Lithuanian SMEs had opportunities to discuss co-operation possibilities in the research and technology field, develop contacts with the SMEs from other countries. Furthermore, representatives of Lithuanian SMEs had the opportunity to get and to share ideas among SMEs, and to make new contacts for further collaboration, which might turn to EU project.

Project results

  • During the project contact was made with 80 of Lithuanian SMEs in the field of wood industry, medicine, biotechnology, packaging industry and mechanics. Technological audits have been carried out, which gave an opportunity for companies to share their technological needs, ideas or offer solution for one or another technological problem.
  • Few companies such as Closed Stock Company "Kardiosignalas" and Closed Stock Company "Liuks" have been assisted in order to submit CRAFT project proposals.
  • A catalogue with SME profiles (22 SME from Lithuania) has been issued.
  • The project gave an opportunity for SME and science institutions to get to know more about EU 5FP and actively get involved in EU 5FP. The project raised perspective ideas among project partners and participants, that in turn will encourage science institutions as well as SME to get involved and participate in EU 6th Framework Programme.
