Project abstract

The TRAIN-NET project duration is eighteen months. By supporting the network of the National Contact Point (NCP) systems of newly associated states it aims to raise the quantity and quality of research projects with participants from these countries as partners in all types of project modalities in the "Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources" (QoL) programme of the 5th EU Framework Programme (5FP).

The main objective of TRAIN-NET is to enable the highest possible standard of support and service for 5FP participants. This high standard can be reached, if well-trained and qualified personnel are available at the "service centres" - the National Contact Points - for the research community. In order to ensure such a competence-based NCP structure, TRAIN-NET is targeting the following objectives: guarantee and improve the exchange of experience and expertise within the trans-national network of well-experienced and "newly introduced" partners; improve the service for researchers by training NCPs in the newly associated states; give an overview of the research community in the participating countries in the fields of the "Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources" Programme; enhance the support in building NCP know-how in the newly associated states; better and faster implementation of the "Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources" programme in the newly associated states.

Project results and impact on Lithuanian science and business

The TRAIN-NET project seeks to arrange 4 meetings focussing on training and exchange of experience and expertise. Two of them are workshops for training, one is for the co-ordination of exchange of experience and the last one is dedicated to the dissemination and presentation of results. The survey of the research landscape of the participating countries in the area of the QoL programme will be performed. This survey will describe the life sciences landscape in the country. Also the survey of NCP services and structure of the participating countries will be prepared and suggestions of NCP performance indicators and recommendations of guidelines for well functioning NCPs will be developed.

The result of these measures will be well trained NCPs for the "Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources" Programme, that will have expertise and skills to provide high quality services to the researchers and participants in the EU Framework Programme. The foreseen measures will lead to an increased number of successful participants from newly associated countries and foster co-operation between research communities from Western, Central and Eastern Europe.
